Things just got worst for Microsoft, a U.S judge on Tuesday ordered Microsoft to stop selling Microsoft Word products in their current form. Any version of Microsoft Word which can open .xml, .docx, or .docm files containing “custom XML, comes under this ban.

According to court documents filed two days ago, Microsoft must pay nearly $300 million in damages and interest to Canadian company i4i because it infringed the latter’s patent for a document system that relies on XML custom formatting.

Chairman of i4i says his goal is not to see Microsoft Word pulled from store shelves. Read complete interview here

There is no way Microsoft is going to let anybody destroy word so it will find a way to win the case or it can continue selling by paying $300 million to i4i.

Microsoft has confirmed that it will be appealing the decision.
