The Canon imageCLASS mf6530 printer is a powerful duplex multifunction printer and copier. The operating system is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Me and 98, and Mac OS X.  The printer has functions for printing with the black and white ImageClass MF6530 ink and toner or color scanning with 24 bit color depth. It copies and prints up to 23 pages per minute of letter size documents based on 20lb paper with a 64 MB copy memory. It is designed for durable and versatile small office use. Some printers have half the paper capacity of its 500-sheet paper cassette. The bonus additional 100 sheet multipurpose tray allows for greater versatility. It can be used for additional paper, envelopes or labels. The combination of the 500 sheet cassette and the 100 sheet tray has multipurpose flexibility for different sizes and types of paper. The combo also accommodates labels and envelopes.

The legal-sized platen glass can be used for single page originals and its 50-sheet capacity automatic document feeder can accommodate multiple paged originals up to its capacity level. The scanner can reduce and enlarge from 50 percent at 1 percent increments to the 200 percent maximum. The buttons for the copier function permit selection of its setting features. It also offers greater control within these settings. The copier can do one and two sided copying and reduce two originals to a one page copy whether the platen or the automatic feeder is utilized. The selection is made by pressing the appropriate button.

The document feeder makes it easier to use the duplex functionality. Two sided functionality is a standout capability of the machine. No more manual labor to be applied to do double-sided printing and copying when needed. It has scanning and OCR software for the option to archive documents on your personal computer.

It is easy to identify and solve operational problems expediently when you use this piece of equipment. The tray for paper that exits the automatic feeder is under the input tray. The output exits into a tray that is below the feeder exit tray. The main paper tray opens by sliding forward from the base of the copier, so there is no need to have much space on either side of this machine, as some copiers may require. If you have a snug space capacity for this to fit into this might be an issue for you to consider. The only thing on the copier that opens to the side is the left hatch which has two openings. The upper compartment provides access to the toner and the lower compartment is for the 100 sheet secondary paper tray. The secondary tray could be used to print paper that is not standard or for special uses like labels and envelopes.

Print resolution is black 600 x 600 dpi with 1200 x 600 dpi quality. Copy resolution is 600 x 600 dpi for black with 1200 x 600 dpi quality. Scanner resolution is 600 x 600 dpi optical, interpolated 9600 x 9600 dpi interpolated. The duplex scanning and double sided copying or printing is not as fast as the 23 ppm normal job output rate.

A USB port is available for linkage to a PC. The provided CD-ROM contains the installation driver for control functions. There is an operating panel for each function. Should it be used as a standalone copier, the PC connection feature need not be used. On the other hand, for scanning of documents or using the printer function, the connection is applicable. A cartridge yield is 5,000 sheets for 20 lb paper; but, the toner save setting could extend the yield per cartridge.

You can view and save the scanned documents or send them to documents to the printer. The PDF file can be one file per page or a whole set of pages in a single document. The search function enables locating text within the document achieved through the OCR program. This model does not have any networking capacity.
